Memorial Day Festivities

This Memorial Day, we were in Lonetree.  As we are every Memorial Day, of course.

Lucy and I arrived the Tuesday before, and were residents for nearly a week.  Eric was in Southern Utah on business, and we were lonely without him.  So we vacated our home for a while.

Lu and I had lots of fun and family to keep us distracted until Eric arrived.  We worked around the house a little and played a lot.  Lucy especially loved the dogs this time around (and has been mentioning Bubba ever since).  We went to Manila for a morning and watched Sylvie receive her award and graduation from 6th grade.  And I read an entire book in about a day.  Basically, we partied.

Eric met up with us at Grandpa's birthday party on Friday night.  Wow, we were so excited to see him!  We had pie, ice cream and cake and some wonderful chats.

The next morning, we branded.  In reality, they branded.  I acted as historian and took pictures.  There were 22 calves needing branded and their mamas needing shots.  The work went fast with lots of help!

During the branding, cousins played.  My parents' grandkids are all 6 and under and get along so well.  I was thrilled to see that Lucy was involved more this time than she has been.  Hugs were shared and hands were held.  She may end up socially inclined after all!

And I'm pretty sure that right after this picture, I picked up baby Shaylie and showered her with love and kisses.  I can't get enough of her!

Lucky for us, the ice cream machine was up and running all weekend long!  Lucy enjoyed a few cones herself, this one on Sunday morning.  We were all relaxing and visiting when I realized that Lu was really goin' to town on her cone!  I insisted that Eric take a picture.  He took seven.  And I'm so glad.  What a cute face!

Each time we left Mom's house for the guest house, Lucy said, "Bye!" to Bubba.  Each time I said, "Let's go to Grandpa's house, she'd say, "Bubba!" or "Puppy!"

She even got so brave as to climb under the trampoline with him.

Bubba's not one for too much attention from little hands.  Sometimes, he would get up, slink away and go hide from her.

Also, we participated in the main event:  The Memorial Day Golf Tournament at the Lonetee Golf Course in Lonetree!  As it turned out, only members from my immediate family had RSVP'd for tee times this year, so we all golfed together.  We had four teams of three and it turned out to be very fun!  I regret that the weather was windy and cold most of the time (as it was ALL WEEK), but it was still very enjoyable.

Sadly, the golf cart was out of commission for the day, so the four-wheeler conveyed those with short legs and bad backs.

And this was our team.  Minus Allie, who didn't actually contribute to our score.  Eli, Eric and I were the Mexican Mooseriders and what a great team we turned out to be!

I love how Allie is eyeing Eli's ice cream.  It's much the same as I did all weekend as I was trying to talk myself into limiting my intake.  I am quite sure that is not what Allie had in mind.
