Dinner Disaster

Last Friday was a rough night for food at our house. And a real rough evening for me. Maybe someone can sympathize with the situation I was in. Sometimes, when something goes wrong, and then another thing, and yet another thing, frustration builds. And perhaps it is that same frustration, impatience and irritation that causes more problems.

The first thing that went wrong was that I unknowingly put too many fries in the fry basket. And the oil overflowed. Onto the granite counter tops. (The result is an inconsistent coloring and feel across the rock.) In an attempt to save the counters, I frantically cleaned up the mess, oiling a perfectly fine dishrag in the process. And my attempt failed.

While I was focused on the oil spill in the east, the burgers to the west were burning. Also, I hadn't sprayed the Foreman and so both burgers came out in 6 pieces. Six hard, black, dry-as-bone bite-size pieces. I didn't even attempt a bun. Instead I just smothered each piece with Hunt's. And stuck a fork in it.

After I called my family to the table, I walked around the island and was not surprised to see this:

But I was not about to subject the burger bites to any more heat. Instead, I made a snack of it. Lucy was pleased. She loves cheese.

Then, Eric said, "This sounds like a blog."

So, I made it one.
