New Start

I'm starting up the blog again!  We've been using Chatbooks and Instagram as a way to document the little day to day things, but decided we want a more comprehensive family history, so here we are again. And I am so excited!

This year has been a little crazy, because...COVID19.  We have heard about the coronavirus constantly, and while our daily life has not changed too much, we would love to be done with it now. :)  School was cancelled in mid March to limit the spread of the virus.  That gave us an extra long summer break!  Appointments were cancelled and stores were emptied of food, sanitation supplies and toilet paper during the initial panic.  I increased our food storage and recommitted to keeping up on it better.  We have had to stay away from some friends and neighbors but have been to Lonetree and to South Jordan several times.  We recently went to the dentist for Lucy, Sam, and Wade for a cleaning, and we had to wear masks until we were seated in the rooms and they took our temperature to make sure we were healthy.

Because of COVID19, the kids have not been inside a store for months.  Either Mom or Dad run in and the other stays in the car with the kids.  It has not been all bad!

We crafted fun corner bookmarks one Sunday afternoon. Sam made Cookie Monster for Wade, and then everyone wanted to join the fun.  Lucy and Dad made the frog.  Annie's is the octopus.  Lucy has the polar bear and elephant.  Wade got the monster and Sam has the pig and spider.  Sam is currently reading Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and his spider bookmark is Aragog. :)

Annie has been crazy for puzzles!  It started with a set of Paw Patrol puzzles that Grandma Cropper had gifted Wade a couple of years ago.  She memorized them quickly and I keep buying her more at the Dollar Tree.  I thought she would tire of them, but she LOVES them.  It's a fun way for anyone to spend time with her.  She is always up for a puzzle, but is often very possessive and wants to do them all herself.

Because of the virus, we have been enjoying home church for a few months now.  We have an opening song and prayer usually picked and offered by Annie.  She has so much love and enthusiasm for home church!  Her favorite thing is to help move the bench to the living room and get a pillow for Dad to kneel on for the Sacrament prayer.  Once we have the Sacrament, we have a short lesson from the current week of Come Follow Me lesson manual.  In this picture we took intermission while Dad went to try to exterminate a vole.  Backstory: We had been trying to trap a vole that Sam spotted for a few days.  No traps had worked, and we occasionally saw the vole around the bushes in back.  Right after Sacrament service this day, Sam looked out the window and saw it again.  Dad told everyone to be quiet and he snuck out the back with the shovel.  Unfortunately, no success.

The peas were Annie's favorite this spring.  I would pick handfuls and open the pods.  She would stay busy for long periods of time picking the peas out and eating them.

We have been really enjoying games as a (mostly) family.  Wade and Annie don't join as often, so we try to strategize when we play.  We play most often on Sundays either during quiet time or when Annie and Wade watch Book of Mormon videos.  We have been loving Settlers of Catan, Play Nine, and Skull King.  We just discovered today, the different games related to Settlers, so the older kids may be receiving something like that for birthdays coming up!

We have had lots of the usual water fun in the back yard.  We blow up pools, play with (and break) lots of Dollar Tree squirt guns and play lots of pretend.  Sam, Wade and Annie love to go on bug hunts.  Lucy is usually really good at organizing the pretend games.  Princess Annie, Dogs, Orphans, School and Horses are played a lot.  Our good friends, the Finleys, live next door and the kids spend a lot of time running back and forth having lots of fun.  The Finleys decided we are in their family circle of association for the duration of COVID19 and we are so glad!
