Caramel Apples

I have successfully accomplished another first of late. Last week Christy came over with her candy thermometer at the ready and helped me make caramel apples! I had found a recipe on Pinterest (three cheers for the founder of Pinterest! whomever he/she may be) and it turned out to be the perfect one. We also learned how to calibrate a thermometer, even exercising our minds as far as to calculate in Celsius. We may have forgotten all of our figurings by the end, but the important thing to bear in mind is that we made some delicious, gooey, sugar-sticky-sweet-stuff caramel. And then we dipped those apples!

In addition to calibration, I learned that one whole apple is too much for one sitting! These sweets should be eaten one slender slice at a time, three hours between slices, one toothbrushing per hour, making one caramel apple a day a sweeter way to keep the dentist away.

Not that that has happened. It's just more calculations in my head.

  1. I also agree that one apple is too much in a sitting. However... they don't keep very well because they brown. I find sharing is the best solution. Might I suggest that for your next venture you dip them in carmel... let it set... then dip in chocolate?!
